Context is a mental mechanism that gives meaning to human experiences. Decontextualisation eliminates this mechanism by separating the subject of study from the environment that frames it. Without context we alter the order of the narrative. One might argue that decontextualisation renders a sign meaningless, but it can serve as means to develop a reflexive, artistic, innovative thought process. Five artists formulate their artistic proposals based on this common process. They apply the method of decontextualisation in varying ways to explore concerns that arise when examining the concepts of time, space, identity, memory, and the present. The exhibited projects weave an intimate narrative that generates questions about the human being and the circumstances that surround us.
