ThiccPhatUTOPIAS – une fête!
With: XING, FONCÉ, Barbara Butch, S T O R M and Dance-Crew FATitude (von Ina Holub)
The 3-part event series ThiccPhatUtopias was held in October 2024 in the form of an emancipatory symposium with a keynote by Da'Shaun L. Harrison, a safer* learning soft space with Ina Holub and Sunanda Mesquita and a panel discussion with Da'Shaun L. Harrison and Yezenia León Mezu and took place as part of the Gender Talks of the Gender Research Unit. Now it is time for the 4th part of the series:
Celebration as an act of resistance
We dance the patriarchy to pieces! We actively stand up against weight discrimination! ThiccPhatUTOPIAS - une fête! brings BIPoC power, trans-joy and queer-feminist club culture to the Viennese stage - under the direction of Dshamilja Gosteli (musical artist, educational scientist, facilitator and active at the Gender Research Unit, University of Vienna). With concerts, DJ sets and glamorous performances, we celebrate a euphoric night full of resistance and empowerment.
We want to organise an event that is as barrier-free and critical of racism as possible and explicitly invite people from all communities to celebrate with us!
XING, FONCÉ, Barbara Butch, S T O R M and the dance crew FATitude (by Ina Holub) - artists and activists who are involved in club culture as activists and are also active on important stages, including the opening of the Olympics - will be there.
In collaboration with WUK performing Arts, we want to realise an evening against weight discrimination, racism and queer hostility as a form of resistant power.

About the artists
XING (she/her)
The stylistic spectrum of XING ranges from melancholic melodies, hip hop elements, influences from R&B and a large amount of soul. Sympathetically unembellished and raw, she tells of experiences with body shaming, self-discovery and dramas in friendship and love that listeners can relate to.
FONCÉ
FONCÉ (they/them)
FONCÉ is a multidisciplinary artist and organizer based in Basel (CH). Their creative expressions mirror their processes of Becoming by weaving together different artistic mediums such as writing, sound production, DJing and curating. At the core of FONCÉs practices are poetic storytelling and remembering. They are interested in collectively re_writing and re_assembling embodied narratives, while drawing knowledge from lived experiences. FONCÉ has been a member of OKRA Collective since 2020 and is currently part of the curatorial team of Wildwuchs festival for its upcoming edition. As a DJ, FONCÉ has played at established events such as Gurten Festival, Festival de La Cité, La Fête du Slip, Bermudadreieck, Bone Performance Festival and Art Basel.

She also embodies popular culture, becoming the face of Jean Paul Gaultier and appearing on the cover of Télérama. As a member of the Drag Race jury on France TV, Barbara is a true activist of love, with many strings to her bow and always aiming for the heart.
