KEX Residenz | Naschgarten beim Zukunftshof
In a public event, we will explore the history of maize, its genetic diversity, practices of cultivation, its use in industrial monocultures, its intertwining with colonialism and acculturation. Coasters and baskets will be woven from corn straw and corn cobs will be grilled. Miguel Vallebueno, a molecular biologist from Mexico who conducts research on the cultivation history of corn, will speak about his work. This will be accompanied by maps depicting his new findings, making legible the genetic diversity, its overlap with ecological regions and cultures.
In collaboration with Johannes Wiener and agri_culture, KEX Research Resident 2023.
